The 5cm Perimeter Rule for Fragile Goods

During transit, packages experience vibration aboard freight trucks and momentary pressure on automated conveyor belts. If a fragile object rests directly against the outer cardboard wall, external shocks transfer directly into the object. A minimum 5cm (2-inch) buffer of bubble wrap or packing peanuts absorbs kinetic energy.

The Box-in-a-Box (Double-Boxing) Protocol

For valuable glassware, electronic motherboards, or musical instruments, double-boxing provides maximum structural defense:

Pack the Primary Inner Box

Wrap the item in bubble wrap and fit it snugly inside an inner box. Seal the inner box securely.

Prepare the Larger Outer Box

Select an outer box that is at least 10 cm (4 inches) larger in length, width, and height than the inner box.

Create the Bottom Cushioning Layer

Pour 5 cm of packing peanuts or dense crumpled paper across the base of the outer carton.

Center the Inner Box & Fill Voids

Place the inner box in the center. Fill all surrounding perimeter gaps and top spaces until the inner box cannot move.

Apply heavy-duty packing tape along the center seam and both edge seams (forming a letter "H").
